Available Sizes

AQUAMET® shafting is stocked in popular diameters in lengths up to 22', ready for machining and installation:

From ¾" diameter to 1 ½" diameter in 1/8" increments
From 1 ½" diameter to 3" diameter in ¼" increments
From 3" diameter to 8" diameter in ½" increments

Sizes up to 15" diameter and lengths up to 38' are available by special order.

AQUAMET® shafting is precisely manufactured in compliance with the requirements of the American Boat and Yacht Council (ABYC) Standard P-6 and carefully packaged to protect the precision finish and straightness.

Shaft Diameters

The following formula can be used in computing the shaft diameters.

D = Shaft diameter, inches

P = Shaft horsepower

S.F. = Safety Factor*

St = Yield Strength, torsional shear, lbs/inch squared

N = Shaft speed, RPM

Pleasure boats intended for heavy service and all diesel and gas turbine pleasure boats should consider safety factors of at least 5. Commercial boats and high performance crafts should consider higher safety factors of 10 or better.

* Generally, safety factors of 2 are considered adequate for boats intended for light pleasure service. For more severe service — such as racing craft, workboats, diesel powered and gas turbine powered boats — higher design coefficients should be chosen, based on experience.
